Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain on Monday said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government would fulfil its promise of establishing south Punjab province.
“It would take some time to set up the province of South Punjab,” he stated while talking to a private news channel.
To a question, he said PTI would form the next government as well on the basis of its performance in this tenure. “Opposition parties were afraid of the performance of the present government working under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan.”
Replying to another question, he said there was no truth in the resignation of Finance Minister Asad Umar. He urged the media to avoid spreading news without confirmation as such fabricated news could have negative impact on the national economy.
Meanwhile, Fawad Monday sought Facebook cooperation to counter hate speech and boost e-commerce in Pakistan.
In a meeting with Vice President of Public Policy Facebook Simon Milner, the minister emphasized the need for formal collaboration to explore the avenues of cooperation with Facebook to promote commerce and business activities in Pakistan.
“We share common grounds to deal with hate speech and related content that leads to violence in the society. We believe in the freedom of expression and free speech,” he said, adding: “Our only concern is to defy hate speech and blasphemous content that incites violence.”
Simon Milner underlined the need for coordination between the government and Facebook to encourage expression and create a safe environment. “We have clear rules against hate speech and content that has the potential to incite violence, and share the same commitment to remove such content in Pakistan, and globally,” Milner said.
Fawad proposed Facebook to have an operational unit in Pakistan. “We will facilitate the office entity with the best available protocols,” he added.
Milner, expressed Facebook’s commitment to helping its community, including small businesses and developers, in Pakistan connect, share and grow.
Earlier this year, Facebook committed to training 20,000 women entrepreneurs across 150 women empowerment centers in Pakistan in collaboration with the Universal Service Fund Company.
Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunications Khalid Maqbool Siddique was also present during the meeting.
The meeting was attended by information and broadcasting, information and technology secretaries, PTA chairman, PID Islamabad Principal Information Officer, Representative from ISPR and other senior officials of Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
