LAHORE: Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) Chairman Tariq Mahmood Pasha was summoned by Lahore High Court (LHC) Judge Shahid Jamil Khan on Wednesday following petitions challenging the recovery of sales tax of textile mills through electricity bills.
The lawyer representing the petitioners contended that the collection of sales tax through electricity bills was a violation of federal government’s policy and pointed out that the court had already been assured by FBR’s legal advisor, who was absent from the hearing on Wednesday, that the matter would be resolved but so far there had been no progress.
Following this, the Judge expressed dismay over FBR’s no-compliance of the court orders and told the FBR chairman that he had to comply with the court orders.
Previously, FBR chairman was asked to appear before the court on November 29.
