Islamabad: The Supreme Court is set to resume hearing of Naqeebullah Mehsud’s murder case on Monday (today) as law enforcement agencies remain unsuccessful in tracking down the whereabouts of former Malir SSP Rao Anwar.
The governor of the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is scheduled to appear in the court among other state functionaries in the case hearing today.
Notices were issued in the last hearing to the deputy attorney general, advocate generals of the four provinces, the SBP governor and the secretaries of the interior and information ministries. The court has also served notices to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) director general, provincial police chiefs of Punjab, KP, Balochistan and Sindh. At the last hearing, the apex court issued a contempt of court notice to absconding former SSP Malir Rao Anwar over his failure to turn up before it in time allotted to him. The court also ordered the authorities concerned to freeze the bank accounts and assets of the absconding officer. The apex court had taken a suo motu notice of the murder of 27-year-old Mehsud youngster from South Waziristan who was killed in a staged encounter led by Anwar and his accomplices on January 13. The murder triggered widespread outrage on social media when the family of the deceased rejected claims that Mehsud was a member of a terrorist outfit and had any criminal record.
