ISLAMABAD: On Supreme Court’s (SC) directives, Additional Attorney General (AAG) Waqar Rana on Monday provided the name of two prosecution witnesses to the counsel of PML-N leader Danyal Aziz, who faces contempt proceedings in the apex court.
Defense counsel Ali Raza will cross-examine the witnesses – identified by Rana as Sajid Chaudhry, a reporter for Dunya News, and Adam Khan, an official of the monitoring team of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulation Association (PEMRA).
Earlier, the three-judge bench headed by Justice Azmat Saeed Sheikh and comprising Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel, observed that it did not want to prejudice Aziz’s case, and, therefore, wanted the list of witnesses to be arranged so that the defence counsel could prepare for cross examination. On the instructions of the bench, Rana then provided the two names to Raza. The bench will resume hearing on Friday. Earlier this month, the top court had framed charges against Aziz in connection with the contempt of court case.
Justice Mushir read out the charge-sheet which stated that Aziz had obstructed court proceedings, and brought the judiciary into hatred, and scandalised the court in connection with three statements he delivered last year against Justice Ijazul Ahsan.
